The Project in Detail
Mikron Switzerland AG is a leading provider of automation solutions for the pharmaceutical, medical, electrical and automotive industries. To make production — previously spread across two separate sites in Boudry — more efficient, the company decided to restructure the site and appointed IE Technology as General Planner.
Based on an IE Master Plan, the industrial construction specialists from Zurich developed a tailored restructuring concept, consolidated the entire production at the headquarters in Boudry and created a state-of-the-art factory complex. The new complex also integrates the development department, features a sustainable Energy concept And, above all, enabled a significant increase in efficiency.
The Challenge
Micron's production had previously been split between two sites in Boudry, several hundred metres apart. The resulting long internal transport routes significantly reduced productivity and led to high running costs. In addition, growing demand meant the existing setup was reaching its capacity limits. The goal was therefore to concentrate all production at a single location and make it more efficient at the same time.
Key Success Factors
By intelligently restructuring the headquarters in Boudry, IE Technology's experts succeeded in consolidating the entire production at one production site and noticeably improving both efficiency and energy consumption. To achieve this, the planners focused on optimising the building concepts: a new production building was integrated into the existing site, while the remaining existing buildings were repurposed.
Despite the limited space available, production and the development department were accommodated in a single building. The New Production Hall Spans 3,600 m² with only seven load-bearing columns, providing maximum flexibility. The final decisive step towards greater efficiency was the new energy centre delivered by IE Technology, featuring high-tech heat pumps and a 1.300 m² photovoltaic system.
The energy generated here is consumed 100% directly at the site and, alongside the cost savings achieved, makes the new production facility a flagship for sustainability.
