The Project in Detail
Otto Fischer AG is a long-established electrical wholesaler that has grown steadily over many years. However, the industrial buildings dating back to the 1970s could no longer meet the demands of modern order-picking. As space on the site became increasingly tight, operational processes grew less efficient.
IE Technology was therefore commissioned as general contractor to extend the existing industrial building while operations continued. The project included adding a full additional storey and a logistics extension. In addition, the building envelope was upgraded for energy efficiency, processes were streamlined through automation, and the existing floor space was used to best effect.
The Challenge
Otto Fischer AG’s site could no longer be expanded. However, the excellent transport links in Zurich were a key reason for staying at the existing location. This called for smart solutions to use the available space in the commercial building more effectively. The existing oil heating system was not only energy-inefficient – it also took up valuable space. In addition, the current logistics processes involved an above-average number of work steps and were largely manual.
Key Success Factors
IE Technology’s experts analysed all operational and logistics processes to eliminate bottlenecks with a holistically planned overall concept. When automating work steps and closely coordinating energy supply, building services and the façade refurbishment, architects, engineers, logistics specialists and energy experts worked hand in hand throughout. The result is an innovative and economical industrial building that benefits both the company and the environment – more space, lower energy demand and CO₂ emissions approaching zero.
