Consolidating Several Production Sites Efficiently at One High‑Tech Location
Economical Conversion of Industrial Stock as an Alternative to New Construction
The Project in Detail
Leuthold Mechanik AG (HLM) develops and produces high‑precision machines, equipment and tools. At its site in Einsiedeln, the company aimed to merge several plants to ensure sensitive high‑tech production under the highest hygiene requirements. IE Technology was commissioned to prepare a feasibility study and to successfully convert a former furniture factory. This included planning and executing the new administration building and production halls in stages, including a comprehensive hygiene concept.
The Challenge
Before construction could begin, it had to be clarified whether the former furniture factory was suitable for the sensitive production of high‑tech products and how the industrial buildings could be optimally converted. A detailed feasibility study was therefore required. To understand the operational processes and meet the strict hygiene requirements, industry‑specific know‑how and extensive expertise in cleanroom planning and automation were essential. In addition, IE Technology’s execution planning had to ensure minimal disruption to ongoing production while significantly improving operational efficiency compared to the previous sites.
Key Success Factors
In close cooperation with the client, IE Technology developed a concept for the staged remodelling and relocation of the industrial building over three years. The extensive know‑how of IE Technology experts formed the basis for all operational process requirements. When converting the former furniture factory, the intention was not to work against the existing structure but to adapt it carefully. A 6,000 m² area with higher hygiene requirements was separated within the existing hall to enable the highly sensitive production and development of high‑tech and electrical engineering. To reduce operating costs in the long term, waste heat from compressed air generation will be used to heat the new administration building in the future.
