Challenges & Solutions

Bringing Ecological, Social and Economic Sustainability Goals into Alignment

The core element of the new building was the development of an energy concept in which large‑scale solar modules installed on the roof and on the southwest façade, combined with thermal equipment for heating and hot water, make a significant contribution to the building’s energy self‑sufficiency. By using various forms of sustainable energy sources, the targeted Minergie certificate for the new building was achieved.

Process‑Oriented Operational Planning for an Efficient Central Workshop Center

IE designed an operational layout planned from the inside out, reflecting and optimizing Rampini Construction’s specific workflows. Thanks to this process‑oriented layout, internal transport routes were shortened and the efficiency of workshop and warehouse operations was significantly increased.

Modular Building Design for Cost‑Effective Future Expansions

IE conceived the building with a modular structure in which foundations, supporting structure and building services infrastructure were designed for long‑term expansion. As demand increases, the workshop center can be expanded in defined modules – without interrupting ongoing operations and at predictable costs.

The Project in Detail

Rampini Construction is one of the leading providers of building and civil engineering services in western Switzerland. To improve operational processes and reduce energy costs, the company sought to bundle operational logistics at a central location. The experts from IE took over construction planning and process‑oriented operational planning. The result is a carefully designed industrial building that sets new benchmarks in efficiency and sustainability.

The Challenge

On behalf of the internationally active Rampini Construction SA, IE planned and constructed a multifunctional building complex together with the architecture firm Archidea. Key parameters of the overall planning included the combination of ecological, social, and economic goals. Based on a holistic usage concept, the new facility was designed to ensure sustainable construction principles and long‑term energy concepts.

Key Success Factors

In close collaboration with general planner and architect Archidea, the experts from IE developed a coherent operational and spatial concept with multifunctional building sections that can be allocated to different business areas. The three‑story industrial building with a total area of 4,500 m² comprises:

  • Ground floor: warehouse with twenty parking spaces, a production area including a workshop, and smaller rooms for contractors
  • First floor: logistics area, office space for the architecture firm, and an apartment
  • Second floor: office space for Rampini Construction SA and a smaller storage room

A key element of the new building was the development of an energy concept consisting of large‑scale solar modules installed on the roof and southwest façade, combined with thermal equipment for heating and hot water. This holistic use of sustainable energy sources enabled the building to achieve the desired Minergie certification.
