Challenges & Solutions

Highly effective corrosion protection

A hermetically sealed nitrogen garage with oxygen reduction to as low as 7 percent provides reliable corrosion and fire protection. Continuous monitoring of humidity and temperature, combined with a specially developed flat‑robot system, enables fully automated storage of 141 vehicles.

A high‑performance test bench of exceptional scale

Two turbines with a diameter of 1.5 m each deliver up to 130,000 m³ of air per hour at a constant intake temperature of +20 °C. The test bench ranks among the most advanced in Europe, achieving exceptional simulation performance for high-output vehicles.

Technical Innovation without Existing References

IE Technology developed prototype solutions for both core components. The seven‑storey building, with three above‑ground and three underground levels, integrates workshop, showroom, conference and office spaces into a service offering unique in Europe. Planning and construction took place from July 2017 to June 2020.

Coordination of specialized partners

As general contractor and general planner, IE Technology coordinated all parties involved through a single point of contact, from concept development through execution. Close Cooperation with the Architectural Office ensures compliance with budget, quality and functional requirements.

The Project in Detail

SSR Performance in Munich specializes in high‑end vehicles and motorsport. For a select group of collectors, the company operates a purpose‑built facility for the professional storage, maintenance and protection of classic and sports cars. IE Technology was responsible for the Planning and Execution of this specialized construction project as general planner and contractors.

The Challenge

SSR Performance set out to create a service offering unique in Europe: a nitrogen garage for classic cars combined with a high‑performance test bench for sports cars under one roof. The technical requirements exceeded those of conventional industrial buildings and demanded highly specialized solutions.

The Success Factors

1. Expert coordination and project management

Two primary technical requirements shaped the project: maximum corrosion protection with automated vehicle storage, and an extremely powerful test bench capable of four‑digit horsepower simulations. This required the coordinated involvement of specialists in oxygen reduction, robotics, ventilation, fire protection and related disciplines.

2. IE Technology as general planner and general contractor

IE Technology worked in close partnership with Büro Bösel Hohberg Architects to develop prototype solutions for both the nitrogen garage and the test bench. The result is a seven‑storey building with underground parking levels, a ground‑floor workshop and test bench, and upper floors housing technical systems, storage, showroom, office and conference areas.

3. Nitrogen atmosphere for corrosion and fire protection

The underground storage levels accommodate 141 vehicles. Nitrogen inertization reduces oxygen levels to approximately 7 percent. Humidity and temperature are continuously monitored, preventing corrosion and mold growth while providing effective fire protection. Vehicles are stored fully automatically using a flat‑robot system that only contacts the tires. Security systems compliant with VdS guidelines protect against theft.

4. A test bench of exceptional performance

The dynamometer measures outputs of up to 2,000 hp and speeds of up to 350 km/h. Two turbines supply up to 130,000 m³ of air per hour via the main airflow and up to 4,000 m³ via secondary jets. Air speeds of up to 200 km/h can be simulated, with intake temperature held constant at +20 °C regardless of external conditions.
