The Project in Detail
Weidmann Medical Technology is one of Switzerland’s leading independent suppliers of injection moulding systems. The long-established company enjoys an excellent reputation worldwide in the medical technology and pharmaceutical industries.
Its service portfolio includes primary packaging, closures and safety components for the pharmaceutical industry; consumer components for in-vitro diagnostics; insert lancing devices and two-component technology for diabetes care; as well as customised laboratory products. Due to steadily increasing demand for high-quality precision products, an expansion and upgrade of the cleanroom to ISO 7 became unavoidable after 17 years.
IE Plast was commissioned as general contractor to deliver the project within a tight timeframe.
The Challenge
The award criteria were clearly defined: compliance with cost, schedule and quality had to be guaranteed. A further key requirement was that the conversion had to be carried out without exception during ongoing operations.
Planning had to consider multiple factors: not only the machines must remain under cleanroom conditions – incoming and outgoing materials, as well as handling and goods flows near the production equipment, also had to be protected from contamination caused by construction activities.
Thanks to many years of experience in medical technology and life science projects, IE’s planners are familiar with execution while maintaining clean production.
Key Success Factors
IE Plast’ careful planning and execution ensured a smooth project delivery. Clean production was not affected for a moment throughout the entire construction period. It also saved time that the client delegated qualification to IE Plast. A planning-led and risk-based qualification process was used – starting with construction planning and accompanying all project phases.
By meeting the ambitious schedule and quality requirements, IE Plast once again demonstrated commitment and proved to be a reliable planning and execution partner.
