The Project in Detail
The Thurgau-based company GENERAL DYNAMICS European Land Systems–Mowag GmbH develops and produces highly protected wheeled vehicles for military applications in Kreuzlingen. As global demand continued to rise, production processes had to be made more efficient and manufacturing capacity expanded in record time.
IE Technology delivered the project – acting as general contractor for the expansion of the two assembly halls and as general contractor for the head building.
The Challenge
To increase efficiency and expand capacity, IE Technology centralised vehicle production through an extension to an existing administration building in Tägerwilen. The goal was to gradually relocate the entire production of the PIRANHA and EAGLE vehicle families to Tägerwilen within a very tight timeframe. Time was one of the decisive factors in awarding the contract – upcoming major orders had to be delivered as quickly as possible.
With IE Technology, GENERAL DYNAMICS gained a planning partner able to deliver reliably under significant time pressure.
Key Success Factors
Based on the requirements of GENERAL DYNAMICS European Land Systems–Mowag GmbH and with a focus on optimal process flows, IE Technology developed the production layout. Lean manufacturing principles were decisive. The team transformed the previously workshop-oriented manufacturing approach into a value stream-oriented layout – with the aim of optimising material flows and reducing processing times.
With IE Technology as the planning and execution partner, the project was delivered in record time.
